Chertsey Rally Report Feb 2016
This was our first time with the club and we were made to feel welcome right from the start. On arrival we were met by the rally marshal, who promptly invited us for a tea, so I was conjuring up a feast of gastro delights in my mind, real steak and good vegetables. Both myself and Pauline were not disappointed by our hosts ability to make us feel fully at home and he asked if we would like sugar in our tea and coffee, so it was off to the fish and chip shop later that evening. It was nice to see all the other rally members who came around most of the afternoon and introduced themselves to us. They could not do any more to make us feel part of the club team. Later that night I now found out why my father in his retirement keeps telling me he just has no time. His day, it just flies past and it was not until later (at 7pm) when we found out why, but that was also a bottle of red wine later, being encouraged by our new found friends. We were staggering slightly back to our van around 10pm, commonly known to us as SHED because of the amount of equipment that Pauline brings along! Just in Case! The next day Club members had arranged a number of excellent things to take part in if we felt the need to walk off the hangover from the night before. One of these was a trip to Brooklands museum, which by all accounts was a very worthwhile trip. Sadly we did not get up in time to make that one, we instead went to a nearby local market to pick up some more bargains! Just in case! The next day flew past, having a good get together over coffee and then off to the pub for a well-deserved lunch. Later that night we were invited to spend the night as a group, however, we left early before the quiz. It makes a real change to be around people that just want to enjoy themselves and life in general. Well, this rally is coming to the end, and that is sad, and if I’d had the time this week we would have continued up to the NEC for the next rally, so for us the next time will be in Peterborough. Thank you to everyone who made us feel very welcome and we do look forward to seeing you all soon. Kindest Wishes, Steve/Pauline |
