Hurley Riverside - March 2016
After a very enjoyable chat with Bill Hoggett and Phyllis Simcock at the February NEC show we decided to join SMOC.This was our first Rally and we arrived on a very wet and soggy Wednesday afternoon. Thank you for the lovely welcome from Beryl, Ray, Bill and Phyllis and to all the SMOC members we met during our stay. When we have our dog with us we try to do plenty of walking, so on Thursday morning after a leisurely start we headed into Hurley village. The sun was shining, blue sky overhead and really warm, that's how it remained for the rest of our rally, what a great start !
The village of Hurley is very pretty with a church, manor house and village green. After getting our bearings, we stopped for an excellent lunch at the Rising Sun Pub before strolling back. The Park is next to the Riverside Picnic Grounds and the Thames Path which offered extensive walking choices in either direction by the river. The wild fowl were in abundance and so many different types could be spotted.

On the Friday some of the group went to Henley on Thames by bus, we decided to see if we could get to Marlow in the other direction following the river. It was hard going as still very muddy and sodden on the towpath due to previous wet weather. We went past Hurley and Temple Lock and could see Marlow fifty metres away but could go no further due to flooding from the Thames. All we could do was turn back, what a shame!
It was a very late lunch that day after a six or seven mile round trip with an occasional seat to rest on, on the way back.On Saturday some of SMOC went to nearby Maidenhead, but we were still suffering aches and pains from the previous day so just had a more relaxing day on site while in recovery mode. This was anopportunity to practice putting our new and unused privacy room up and taking it down again. That afternoon we all had a get together with a raffle and tea and coffee, a chance to put some faces to names and socialise. Then Sunday already! We had booked a return trip to the Rising Sun for Sunday lunch so missed out on a morning walk along the river bank in the Henley direction.
We all had a good day whatever we had decided to do.
