LINCOLN FARM PARK RALLY - Standlake, Oxfordshire (March 2017)
A lovely site with well placed, pleasant pitches and helpful staff in Reception.
There were 19 ‘vans and a very substantial 5 first timers as well as one “return to the Club” member. The weather was mostly bright, but there was a cold breeze and the lack of a meeting room could have been a problem if the weather had worsened.
The “Meet and Greet” meeting on the first afternoon was very helpful and everyone was then able to put faces to other members of the rally and hopefully new members felt part of the group and able to nod and smile throughout as people went around the business of enjoying themselves.
The buses outside the site, although not too frequent, were handy and gave us all the opportunity to explore the area and even venture as far as Oxford if so inclined.
A Wine and Nibbles evening was well attended, despite the chilly breeze and the visit of a steak van to the site coincided and some people had a stress free supper with wine that evening.
Unfortunately attempts to organise a group meal at the pub next door were frustrated by a big pre-booked party so next time we’ll try again, but even so the pub was cosy and busy and a warming retreat.
Also we tried to organise a boat trip from Oxford but were too early as they don’t start running until May, despite the fact that Oxford was crowded with tourists now.
Groups went out for long and short walks around the area and to the nearby nature reserve where we had the use of the hides overlooking the lakes. Coffee morning on Sunday was noisy and well attended. The raffle was well supported and the usual banter prevailed!
Bills competition was completed (where does he get these obscure pub names from?) and everyone's artistic abilities were obviously quite good as some people managed to get 16 out of 20 correct.
The rally closed on Monday, but I believe it was one of the best I’ve attended – well done all. Look forward to the next ones.
