Lincoln Season Finale Motorhome Show - September 2015
It had been two years since June and I had visited the Lincoln Motor Home Show. At that time we were with the Auto Sleepers Owners Club, but this time having swapped to a Swift 664 in May, we were now looking forward to meeting Members from the Swift Motorhomes Owners Club. We were made very welcome by Beryl and Ray, as did the other Members - particularly when it was announced that we were first time Ralliers with the Club. |
Of all the Motor Homes Shows ( and there are probably too many now ) Lincoln is a big favourite for us. The grounds are always keep nice and the facilities although old are kept very clean, even the waste bins were emptied three times a day.
As for the show itself, we thought it was very well populated with exhibitors, much more so than other Shows we have visited this year. And of course, we were so lucky with the weather which seemed to put people in a good mood. There's a lot to be said about sitting out in the sunshine at one of the exhibitors stands enjoying a 1940s style cream tea and drinking from china cups, whilst overhead a Lancaster Bomber did a low circuit of the show. He was so low we could even see the pilot waving at us. Previously to this we had been treated to a fly past of a Spitfire and a Hurricane,
not something you see every day. Last time we were at this show we had a display by the Red Arrows directly over head. It seems the Lincoln Show has added benefits on occasions.
Was there a down side to the show ? unfortunately yes. This related to the siting of the Club's pitch, something of course the Club has no control over. It seems to be allocated by the numbers attending. In this case the pitch was almost directly opposite the entertainment marquee and whilst the entertainment finished on time most nights, at Eleven PM, the crowds leaving were very noisy - not being helped by a burger van parked outside the main exit and serving food until well past midnight.
Like most motor homers, we are used to having to compromise on occasions so against this we did have the convenience of having water, toilets Elsan and waste bins less that 20ft away, so no long trudges to use them which so often is the case at shows.
This is our first Swift unit having had many different makes of Caravan and Motor homes over the years. After the show we did an extended tour of Lincoln and the Broads, towing a Smart car, and the van performed very well with no problems. In fact this is the first van that we have had that came with no problems and has remained that way so far, how's that for tempting fate ?
