Love 2 Stay, Shrewsbury (Valentines Rally) - Feb 2019
We have been members of the club for around five years now. Once Christmas is done and dusted, we look forward to the start of the Rally Season in February. Its a good opportunity to take the Motor Home out of Winter Storage and make sure everything you must have out on the road is back in its rightful place.
This years first Rally was local to where we live in Telford. A long journey of half an hour for us to Shrewsbury. It’s been a long time since we have seen people as it was September 2018 due to other family commitments last year.
There was a good turn out for the start of this year with 17 units on site, five were first time Ralliers. We were pleased others got a chance to visit, maybe for the first time, our beautiful part of the world in Shropshire.
This 5 star site was only opened in May 2017, so everything looked immaculate and very modern.
It has all inclusive super pitches which are extra wide and a luxury facilities building with everything you might need provided. It is minutes from the historic county/market town of Shrewsbury and close to the border with Wales. Shrewsbury was the birthplace of Charles Darwin if you didnt know. There is a great statue of him outside the town library.
Lots of top class activities for families on site, gone are the days of one slide, two swings!
A Spa, coffee shop with bar, pizzeria, junior clubs, natural swimming pool, water gardens, yoga, cinema, childrens adventure zone and importantly for us dog friendly. Plenty to see and do off site if you want to. The Shropshire Hills, Severn Valley Railway, Wroxeter Roman City, RAF Cosford, Ironbridge, market towns, stately homes, gardens and castles big and small.
We had great views all around from our level but elevated pitch, towards the Wrekin and then the other way were the Stretton Hills, we think. The weather was so good, a change from the Beast last year.We were only staying four nights and arrived with our little red car in tow which we bring with us sometimes to go out and about.Thank you to Ian & Sharon (for your kind generosity), Carol and Ray for your warm welcome.
There is usually a programme of events which you can take up as you wish, nothing is compulsory. It’s your break away, it’s your choice. A welcome drink and pitza buffet was to be had in the evening so most people went, always noisy as a lot of catching up to do and meeting our new members. Very successful.
One afternoon some members went on a walk tour of Shrewsbury. It was founded by the Saxons and sits inside a loop of the River Severn. Its Tudor centre has half timbered houses. The Medieval Castle houses the Regimental Museum and it even has an Abbey (Cadfael novels by Ellis Peters, local author)
All too soon its Sunday which can only mean a coffee morning and raffle. Plenty of catching up again before the draw, lots of prizes, but not our lucky day.
