24 Sep 2009 - LINCOLNSHIRE FINALE MOTORHOME SHOW RALLY
The Season Finale Motorhome Show was our first SMOC rally. We had the week booked off and spent the first part until Thursday at Robin Hood's Bay.
We got away from Whitby early Thursday morning and set off back to Lincolnshire. We stopped off at home as we only live in Blyton, to drop the car off and restock with food for the rest of the week.
We got to the showground at around 3.30pm and the Rally Marshal Ray Rolfe made us feel very welcome. We didn't meet Beryl his wife until the next day - apparently she had gone walkabout!
We were shown where to pitch up and told where all the facilities were. This was the first time we had been without electric for any length of time, so it was a good test for our 2 year old Bessy. We discussed with Ray the events that were taking place over the weekend, and then we did the most important job - put the kettle on!
It turned out to be a great first time rally. As it was a show, everyone did their own thing, but the couples we did meet were very helpful and informative. These included Will and Di from Dunstable, Ray and Carol from Pontefract and Trev and Sheila from Doncaster. We also met fellow first time ralliers Simon and Veronica who were having a spot of battery trouble with their Bolero (hope they have got it fixed). On the Sunday we also met a couple at the coffee morning who we won't name (they know who they are) who had a spot of finger trouble when booking the rally on the computer, (nice to know I am not the only technophobe) and had to spend the weekend mixing in with the RVs!
The only downside of spending four days at the show; MONEY (the spending of it). We decided we needed to invest in a Solar Panel and awning, which on the up side meant we could try them out first hand at the rally.
The Solar Panel was a godsend, although now we have got the spending bug we have decided to invest in LED lights (more expense).
We had booked for the Saturday night entertainment and met up the Brother and Sister in Law, Mick and Sue, who belong to the Autotrail Club (WHOOPS!). The evening started with the Dictionary of Soul, then a Tribute to Lionel Richie and last but not least, the Sounds of the Four Tops. All in all it was a very good night and a very good show; the weather and the company were excellent.
Sorry there were no pictures, another technophobe moment, the batteries were not charged!
We are now looking forward to the next rally in Winchcombe, where we hope to meet more new friends.
Until then - happy motorhoming
