There has been a mill at Poston for many centuries. As long ago as 1588 records of the Sheriff’s Court refer to “…profits of the mill at Poston…” and the contents of a nearby barn which included “…five bushels of oats, two loads of hay and certain loads of straw. Today, Poston Mill, situated in the heart of Herefordshire, is a 35-acre holiday park with extensive walks, an attached pub, a shop, and fishing in the adjoining river Dore or further afield on the Wye.
Buses run from the park entrance with routes to Hay-On-Wye, famous for its books and an eclectic mix of crafts, galleries, and restaurants or further afield to Brecon nestled in the shelter of the Brecon Beacons, or Hereford with its famous Mappa Mundi.
There are numerous castles and churches just bursting with fabulous architecture and history. Bacton church is the resting place of Queen Elizabeth I lady’s maid, Blanche Parry. All along the Marches there are castles both ruined and still standing, Grosmont, Hayland Ludlow are just a few to consider.
Our club Christmas Dinner is booked for Saturday 26th November at the Mill Restaurant and the price will be circa £21.
