Puy du Fou, Les Epesses, France - June 2017
We have been to several UK Rallies with SMOC but this was our first venture overseas with them. The rally began on Thursday 15th June in Montsoreau, France but we decided to make the journey there a leisurely affair. We left home on the previous Sunday in order to visit our daughter in London. The next day we headed to Dover for an afternoon ferry crossing to Calais.
This was a trip with a lot of firsts for us. We were stopping at an Aire in Le Crotoy (Bay of the Somme), far enough away from the port to make a good start. We had not booked any stops and each day decided how far the driver wanted to travel. We used a combination of ACSI Camping Card sites and Caravan Club sites which took camping cheques. All worked well and provided the facilities we expected to different degrees. We stopped at Chartres and Vendome before arriving at L'Isle Verte for a twelve day visit.
There was also an unofficial follow on rally by some of the group, as we were so near to Puy Du Fou in the Vendee region of France at Les Epesses.
It is described as a Historical Theme Park, but it is so much more than that! It was a unique, wonderful moment during our visit to France. Have a look on their website for yourself www.puydufou.com (or look it up on You Tube) .We had a three day pass and needed it for the shows through the day and the evenings. The evening Cinescenie was "fantastique", a living tapestry. Thank you so much for this recommendation, words don't do it justice, you have to go there and experience it.
We hope to go to Southern Ireland with the Club next year, if it happens. All I can say is if you're not sure (like us this year) give it a go. Speaking from personal experience we think you'll be glad you did."
